Holding Hope in Grief is an act of care and love to our community. These sessions are intended to provide a space to explore grounding practices to regulate your nervous system, as well as a space to build community and discuss concrete ways to foster resilience. While therapeutic, this is not a traditional therapy group and is not a replacement for therapy. Whether you consider yourself a seasoned activist or have felt unsure how to take action as of yet, we invite anyone who wants to work towards building a more just world together.
Our second session on grief and hope utilizes art making through cartography. Maps can be an artistic representation of a geographical concept. Humans have been map-makers throughout the entirety of our civilization. In fact, humanity’s earliest maps tend to focus on the terra incognita, or the universe’s unseen or unknown parts, like the heavens.
What happens when we allow mapmaking to be a part of our grief-journeys? In this class, we will focus on making a grief map. Some questions we will explore: what does your personal “grief map” take the shape of? Where does it begin and lead to? How does it keep us from getting lost, by inherently showing us a way out of the lostness? Can this map make us feel safer to feel our feelings? Should this map lead to the “place of hope & faith,” or somewhere else?
