We're Expanding!

The pandemic forced us to make difficult concessions to survive and keep our community safe. We shrunk our community room and reduced the number of appointments we offered in a day. We know it has been a challenge to make timely appointments lately, but thanks to your continued support, we have exciting news about a plan to expand.

A few weeks ago, Five Point signed a lease at 2864-2866 N Milwaukee with the intention of relocating our clinic in late summer or early fall of 2022. Our new space is almost five times the size of our current space which will allow us to provide more of the services you love as well as new services and offerings like classes, educational workshops, individual and group therapy, and much more. Our buildout starts in May, and we’ll keep you updated on the progress.

This new space is for YOU! So we want to hear about your wildest dreams for your ideal holistic community healthcare clinic!

Please fill out this survey to let us know what’s most important to you in a new space and what kinds of services/offerings you’d like to see.

Thanks for your continued support which made this possible!

Price Increases in 2022

Our mission is to provide high-quality, accessible holistic healthcare and education in an effort to cultivate long-standing relationships between highly trained practitioners and the community that are socially and economically just.

We pride ourselves both in the high quality of care and attentiveness our practitioners and staff provide. Ensuring this high level of care along with our mission to provide accessible and affordable services for the community has always been a difficult task, but has become increasingly difficult as we grow in the current market.

To keep our services as accessible as possible, we have not raised our prices in three years; however, during that time period, we have continued to make substantial investment in our staff including guaranteed pay during covid, pay increases across the board, additions to PTO, sick time, and covered medical and dental health benefits for all full time staff. Raising prices is necessary for us to continue to be a supportive workplace.

In order to bridge the gap between our financial needs and our mission, as of January 1, 2022 we will be implementing a new tiered pricing approach for all of our services, similar to our community acupuncture pricing.

After a market analysis it was clear that our prices were below averages across the city. Our new Standard prices sit just below the median range for this service in Chicago. In addition, we will be extending flexible / tiered pricing to include a Reduced and Supportive price rate for all of our services to further foster our mission of accessible and affordable services.

What do the different tiers mean and who are they designed for?

  • Reduced - for patients who have limited means, are on a budget, or are coming in frequently (2+/week)

  • Standard - for most patients coming semi-frequently (1/week) - this pricing is set below the average price for similar services across the city to ensure our mission of accessible and affordable services.

  • Supportive - for patients who can afford to pay the market rate for services in Chicago, those coming in for maintenance or low frequency (1-2/month), or can be encouraged in lieu of tipping. Patients able to pay supportive prices are helping us foster our mission and help subsidize those who may be on a budget.

What our new pricing looks like:

Pricing Chart - Five Point Holistic Health

What you choose to pay is entirely up to you and your comfort level. We understand that circumstances change and what you pay can change month to month or even appointment to appointment. As always, for those who may have more extreme needs or circumstances, please don't hesitate to talk with us, and we can do our best to make accommodations.

We will also be raising the prices of other services that will remain at a flat, non-tiered rate:

  • Cupping - $65

  • Ear Acupuncture - $20

  • 90-minute bodywork - $165

We will continue to offer packages, and these will be set at a percentage discount from our standard pricing. We encourage you to purchase a package before the end of the year to ensure a few more treatments at our current prices.

Thank you for continuing to support our business, and happy holidays!

Celebrating AAPI Month

May is Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, and our Acupuncturists and bodyworkers have had the tremendous privilege of learning valuable medicines and practices indigenous to East Asia.

Racism against Asian Americans is still rampant in this country, made evident by the mass murder of people of Asian descent in Atlanta and the racist rhetoric and rise in violent acts against Asian Americans due to the coronavirus. It is especially important that those of us who profit from Asian culture and traditions speak out against such atrocities and serve as advocates of and give back to the AAPI community.

Today is Five Point's 7th birthday, so we're donating $700 to the Chinese Mutual Aid Association. CMAA serves Chicago's low income immigrant and refugee community through social services, advocacy, educational programming and assistance for youth, adults, the elderly and small businesses. We encourage you to check them out and consider donating.

We thank our beautifully diverse and generous community for supporting our clinic and East Asian Medicine for the last seven years.

Herbal Support for Vulnerable Communities Affected by Covid-19

Structural violence and systemic racism manifest as inequalities in both the burden of disease and level of suffering experienced by disenfranchised communities.

In response, herbalist Liz Appel has organized a team of colleagues, including Five Point's Celeste Levitz-Jones, to offer low to no cost herbal telemedicine care prioritizing working class and low income folks of color disproportionately affected by the current pandemic in and around Chicago.

Your donation would support our capacity to impact marginalized communities, mitigate symptoms of illness, and promote and uplift healing and well-being. Thank you for being part of the work of restorative ecology and holistic community healing!

Supporting Community Wellness Through Advocating for Racial Justice

Stress, strain, upheaval, and uncertainty is palpable for everyone right now. We wish for your safety and security and ask for you to consider those who cannot enjoy those privileges.

One of the seven co-op principles is Concern for Community, which means speaking up and lending help when our community is hurting. We’re heartbroken by the death of George Floyd and countless other Black and Brown lives at the hands of police violence. We’re angry at the systematic oppression and racism in our community. We’re listening and committed to finding ways in which we can do better as individuals and a business in unpacking our own biases.

We encourage everyone to do what they can with their bodies, minds, voices, and wallets to

  • Protest against racism

  • Read about White supremacy

  • Listen to Black voices

  • Discuss these issues with friends and relatives

  • Support Black-owned businesses

  • Donate to causes that work to dismantle racism and improve Black lives

For our part, Five Point Holistic Health has set up a recurring donation to Imagine Englewood, whose mission is to "strengthen and empower the Greater Englewood community through teaching local youth and their families healthy living, environmental awareness, and positive communication skills."

Please consider contributing your resources to Imagine Englewood or any of the causes below:

Accountability, justice, and reform are necessary to begin healing this longstanding systemic illness. We are all community and it is in all our best interests to support one another. Please take care of yourselves and each other.

Five Point's Response to COVID-19

EDIT: Five Point will be closed until March 14 amid growing risk of COVID-19. Thank you for your understanding.

As concerns rise around the global coronavirus pandemic, Five Point is doing our part to keep our staff and community safe. We’re here to support your health and wellness, and for the time being we are staying open while we closely monitor the situation. Your safety is always a priority, and we already adhere to rigorous cleaning standards as a medical clinic. We’re taking additional steps to mitigate risk to our community based on recommendations from the CDC, WHO, and state and local officials.

What We’re Doing

  • Using universal precautions such as frequent hand washing and hand sanitizer use.

  • Wiping down community chairs, treatment surfaces, laptops, and other frequently touched surfaces with alcohol or chlorine-based disinfectants.

  • Instructing employees to stay home if they are experiencing any symptoms of illness.

  • Having masks and gloves available for staff and practitioners to wear at their discretion. This is not because they are sick but to prevent the spread of illness.

  • Removing a chair in the community room so patients are more than 6 feet apart.

  • Washing washcloths after every use by patients.

  • Washing cloth blankets and spraying space blankets with disinfectant once per day.

What We Ask of You

  • Wash your hands upon entering the clinic either at the practitioner sink in the community space or the restroom. Hand sanitizer is available for your use throughout the clinic.

  • Please stay home if you’re experiencing any cold or flu-like symptoms, even if they’re mild, unless you’ve tested negative for COVID-19 and haven’t had a fever for 24 hours.

  • Please stay home if you’ve been in direct contact with someone who has tested positive for COVID-19 or if you’ve recently traveled from a country that has reported COVID-19 cases in the last 14 days.

  • We never charge a fee for cancellation due to illness.

Take Your Herbs!

We have stocked up on raw, granule, and encapsulated herbs. Raw herbs are the most potent and best at combating active sick symptoms. Granules and capsules can be used preventatively. Schedule a phone consultation if you’re sick, and we can make a custom formula based on your symptoms. We can also refill current formulas if you chose not to come in for treatments at this time.

We understand this is an unprecedented time for our city, country, and world. Please take care of yourselves and your community. We’ll continue to communicate with you if anything changes.

Well Wishes,

Celeste, Ryan, Nathan, and the Five Point team

What's New in 2019

As the current year winds down, we want to take a moment to let you know of some of the changes happening at our clinic in 2019. First, know that we are endlessly grateful to you, our loyal and supportive customer base. You enable our thriving clinic and its talented practitioners, and support a positive, nurturing presence in the community. The culmination of these foci is embodied in our mission and values, which we continuously strive to improve upon. Thankfully, each year we make steps toward meeting our mission and putting cooperative principles into action.

Two of those big changes in 2019 will be switching all of our contractors to employees and adding an economic hardship program. In order to sustain these changes, there will be a slight increase in our prices, as previously announced in May.

Sustainable Employment

Our single biggest shift is that all of our contractors will become employees in 2019.  This change in our structure has enabled us to offer our acupuncturists and bodyworkers health insurance benefits and paid time off as well as mitigate their tax burden. Sustainability and accessibility are both a big part of our mission, so we are beyond happy to provide the opportunity for our practitioners and staff to have a stable job with access to healthcare in what can be a volatile job market.

Needs-Based Discount Program

Having an affordable and accessible space is of great importance to us, and our modest price increase will help us to enact an economic hardship program with our services. Our needs-based program will officially be in effect as of January 1, and we will be giving a discount to people who are having hardship or external difficulties in their lives.  There is no barrier to entry or official application; interested parties only need to inquire via email, with their practitioner, or with reception in the front.

We also plan on launching monthly discount community acupuncture nights, the first being Monday, January 14th. From 4-7pm, community acupuncture will be available for $25. Anyone can book!

Price Changes

As of January 1st, our prices will be changing across all services in order to support these new initiatives. Below are the new prices:

  • Community Acupuncture and Herbal Consults: $40

  • Private Acupuncture: $85

  • Cupping: $55

  • Bodywork and massage:

    • $55 (30 minutes)

    • $80 (45 minutes)

    • $105 (60 minutes)

    • $155 (90 minutes)

As always, purchasing at least 5 sessions of any service gets you 10% off. Also, we want to remind you to buy your gift certificates and packages before the close of this year, as we are donating 10% of our profits from Nov 23- Dec 22 to Christopher House.

What Else Can You Look Forward to in 2019?

  • Expanded hours and hiring more acupuncturists

  • Discontinuing our psychotherapy program to make room for more private acupuncture and bodywork. Contact us for some excellent referrals!

  • Raw herbal dispensary offering a limited number of common formulas

  • Insurance billing for private acupuncture through BCBS (not available right now, but we’re working on it!)

Thank you all again for your support. You're the reason we do what we do. Happy holidays and new year!

Raising Our Prices to Meet Our Mission

This year, as our business turns four, we have been reflecting on how to meet our mission, values, and goals for the foreseeable future so that we may continue to serve and grow with our wonderful community. In addition to continuing to offer high-quality, accessible holistic healthcare, it is our goal to prioritize living wages and benefits for our workers as well as making Five Point a model of how small cooperative businesses can be run successfully.

As of June 1st, Five Point will be raising the price of community acupuncture and herbal consultations to $35 for repeat visits, and in January 2019 this price will go up to $40. The prices of our other services will not be affected in 2018.

These changes will help us achieve a new level of stability and sanctuary, as Five Point becomes a better home for its workers. Later this spring, Five Point will be able to offer health insurance coverage to its employees and owners, which is a big landmark for us.

Beyond improving our internal structure, this price increase will allow us to create a low-income program for community acupuncture, something that will help us continue to meet our mission of accessibility. We expect to launch this program in 2019.

As a thank you and to help with the transition to our new pricing, for the entire month of June our packages for community acupuncture will remain at their current pricing. We highly suggest taking advantage of these prices, and getting a package if you are a regular consumer of community acupuncture.

As always, we can’t thank you all enough for supporting our business and making our clinic such a lovely, healing environment. We are very excited about this coming year as we enter into our fifth year of service, and we couldn’t have done it without you!

With gratitude,

The Five Point Team

Upcoming Changes in July

At Five Point, one of our core mission goals is to provide high quality, effective and affordable healthcare services. With this in mind, we recently have conducted an internal audit of our services to make improvements and refinements for your experience at our clinic. We are excited to share some small changes we have made to maximize personal time spent with patients.

Changes in Current Services

We will be reconfiguring all of our current services so that they run on 15 minute intervals instead of 20. With these changes there will be a modest increase in some of our prices. Below is a list of our current services with their price and/or time changes.

  • Private Acupuncture: First visit $95, Follow up $75, 1-hour session, 45 min with practitioner

  • Community Acupuncture: First visit $45, follow up $30, 1-hour session, 15 min with practitioner

  • Herbal Consultations: First visit $45, follow up $30, 15 min with practitioner

  • Cupping and Moxibustion only: 30 min, $50

  • Bodywork: 30 min $50, 45 min $70, 60 min $95, 90 min $145

New Service

We are adding a new 30-minute service that combines acupuncture and herbal consultations in order to allow for more time when an in-depth consultation is necessary. This service will be called Reassessment: Community Acupuncture+Herbal Consultation. It costs $45, and it is designed for the following situations:

  • It is your first time receiving herbal medicine in addition to community acupuncture

  • Your practitioner has requested this extra time due to the complicated nature of your case

  • There is any need for a reassessment such as a change in your case

  • We haven’t seen you for several months

If you currently do both acupuncture and herbal medicine, your practitioner will be discussing with you in the next few weeks whether or not it is necessary to book this new service or if an herbal consult can be conducted in the timeframe of a community acupuncture treatment. Please contact your practitioner with any questions.

Timetable

Over the July 1st weekend, you will see changes to the online booking which reflect our new service times; however, new pricing will not go into effect until Tuesday, August 1st. We will honor old packages until they run out, so we encourage you to buy one in the next couple weeks!

As a community-focused clinic that values affordable, accessible care, we do not take price increases lightly. We appreciate your trust and support and are making these changes in order to provide our best care. Thank you for your business, and please contact us with any questions.

Good bye Windy City; Hello Blue Ridge Mountains!

I have some big news to share! This summer, I am moving out of Chicago to head back to the South; specifically, Roanoke, VA. My husband and I have been discussing this move for a long time, and this spring it all came together. It has been an exciting 12 years in Chicago, and the last 3 years at Five Point have been some of the most rewarding, challenging, and fulfilling to date. My husband is excited to get back to teaching, and I am excited about backyard chickens, being closer to nature, and a slower pace of life.  I will continue to practice Chinese Medicine, hopefully at one of the community acupuncture clinics in the area, and am hoping to work with one of the local hospice organizations for end of life care.

Before I leave, I am headed to France for a month-long meditation retreat under the guidance of a wonderful teacher. I am hoping this time will give me a chance to reflect and transition to a new phase of my life. My last day working at Five Point is May 20th, but you might see me around now and then for my own treatments while I recover from retreat and get ready for the big move to VA.

I will sincerely miss my partners, friends, and patients here. You have all shaped me as a person and clinician, and I look forward to coming back for visits as the years go on. Good bye Windy City; Hello Blue Ridge Mountains!
